The trips along the Tagus also include a historical recreation of the journey of King Carlos and Queen Amélia

The famous Tejo Vintage Train, with its Schindler carriages and panoramic windows, is returning to the tracks on the last two Saturdays of November, the 23rd and 30th. The two special runs will allow passengers to embark on a unique experience along the Beira Baixa Line.

The tour, which will have two different editions – one to Encontramento and the other to Castelo Branco – allows you to take advantage of the landscapes of the Ribatejo marshland and the riverside route along the River Tagus. As well as the train journey, the CP experience offers passengers the chance to watch a historical re-enactment of the journey of King Carlos and Queen Amélia, visit the National Railway Museum and the Railway Quarters and see various places of interest, such as the emblematic Almourol Castle, Belver Castle or the Portas de Ródão Natural Monument.

The first program includes a round trip between Lisbon (Santa Apolónia and Oriente stations) and Entroncamento and will be a real “journey through time”. Once at your destination, you’ll visit the Boneco, Vila Verde and Camões railway districts, where you’ll learn about the history of this railway heritage.

Lunch is free, but there are options to have the meal, by appointment and at an extra cost (22€), on board the restaurant carriages that are part of the collection of the National Railway Museum, which will be the second destination of the trip. Here, passengers will have the opportunity to learn about 160 years of railway history in Portugal, from the first steam locomotives to the rail transport of the future.

Before returning to the station, the municipality of Entroncamento will give everyone a taste of tea and a traditional sweet.

The second program covers the route between Lisbon and Castelo Branco. During the trip there will be a historical re-enactment of the journey of King Carlos and Queen Amélia. At the destination, you will be welcomed by a guide and a musical group.

During the day you will have free time to visit the city and its main points of interest, such as the Cargaleiro Museum, the Contemporary Culture Center, the Castelo Branco Embroidery Interpretation Center and the House of Jewish Memory. All passengers will be entitled to a 50 percent discount at these places, on presentation of their train ticket.

The trip kicks off with a reception for participants at Lisbon’s Santa Apolónia station, starting at 8.30 a.m., where they will be offered some beans. The tours can be booked on the CP website and cost €27 (first program) and €49 (second program).
