The train journey along the Douro line is one of the most beautiful in the world due to its landscapes. But did you know that a ticket costs less than 15 euros?
Travelling by train in Portugal, unlike in Europe, is difficult. The disinvestment in the railway and the successive strikes make it challenging to travel the national territory on railways, but the truth is that one of the most beautiful train trips in Europe takes place in Portugal and costs less than €15.
The Douro railway line, with 203 km, and comprised between Porto and Barca dAlva, was completed in 1887, after 26 tunnels and 30 bridges had been built.
One of the most beautiful tours begins at Régua station, in the heart of the region of origin of Port Wine, where the train first arrived in 1878, and extends to Pocinho station.
Pinhão Station, one of the most beautiful in the country, with its facades decorated with tile panels, depicting the work in the vineyard and the landscapes of the region, is another mandatory stop.
If you prefer to take the whole line, as experts recommend, a ticket from São Bento station, in Porto, to the last station in Barca D’alva, costs €14.50. Tickets can be purchased on the CP website.
