Best ranked Portuguese is Quinta do Crasto ranked 15th on the World’s Best Vineyards list.
The 2024 edition of the World’s Best Vineyards, dubbed the “Oscars of wine tourism”, once again highlighted Portugal, with four vineyards among the 50 best in the world. The results were released on November 7 and first place went to the Herederos del Marqués de Riscal winery, located in the Basque Country in Spain.
This Basque winery, known for its unique and innovative architecture by Frank Gehry, had already won second place in the previous edition of the competition run by the British media group William Reed, and has now consolidated its elite status.
The best national ranking went to Quinta do Crasto, which came 15th. This 135-hectare estate in Sabrosa offers visitors the chance to explore the barrel cellar, taste its excellent wines and take part in complete programs that include meals, boat trips on the Douro River and observation of the work in the winery and vineyards.
In 28th place, Quinta do Bonfim, located in Pinhão, achieved its best ever ranking, with its tribute to Port wine standing out. Quinta do Noval, also in Pinhão, with 192 hectares and founded at the beginning of the 18th century, completed the list of Portuguese estates in the top 50, occupying 36th place.
The ranking “recognizes the unique experiences that vineyards offer, from stunning landscapes and rich histories to extraordinary restaurants and vineyard tours,” said one of the event’s organizers, Andrew Reed, quoted by SIC Notícias.
Second and third place in this year’s edition of the World’s Best Vineyards went to the VIK and Creation projects, in Chile and South Africa respectively.
