The Wine Spectator magazine has published its top wines of the year, with several national references.

Portuguese wines are once again among the best in the world. This week, the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator released its list of the 100 best wines for 2024. Portugal has four references on the list.

The publication has been publishing this list since 1988. This year, as in previous years, the 100 best wines tasted over the last 12 months are selected. There are references from all over the world.

And we don’t have to go very far down to find the first national wine on this list. It’s in 26th place and it’s the 2018 Dow Late Bottled Port. It’s on sale from 17.35 euros. They say it’s a wine that can be kept until 2031.

In a tasting note, the magazine reveals that it is “elegant and fresh, with notes of dark plum and blackberry”. In position 66 is José Maria da Fonseca’s Anticiclone. Then, in 78th place, is Vale D. Maria Vinhas do Sabor, Douro Superior, from 2020.

The last national reference on this list is in position number 81, the 2023 Alvarinho da Soalheiro.

The North American market is the second largest importer of Portuguese wine, with a value of 100 million euros in 2023 and 9.4% growth.
