Woman getting Botox injection in lips area

At issue is an aesthetic intervention of lip filler with hyaluronic acid, applied by an alleged nurse, resulting in a serious life-threatening body infection that led to hospitalization and several surgical interventions.

The PSP conducted searches in two aesthetic clinics in Mafra and Lisbon as part of a process of usurpation of functions and serious physical integrity offenses, and two people were indicted, the security force said today.

In a statement, the metropolitan command of Lisbon of the PSP says that on January 10 it complied with two non-domiciliary search warrants to two aesthetic clinics and a home search warrant. The two defendants – a 35-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man-were subject to identity and residence restrictions.

The PSP adds that the investigation had been going on since the beginning of 2019, after the presentation of an anonymous complaint by the Order of nurses to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

At issue is an aesthetic intervention of lip filler with hyaluronic acid, applied by an alleged nurse, resulting in a serious life-threatening body infection that led to hospitalization and several surgical interventions and culminated in loss of sensitivity and lip deformation.

“After an investigation by the Ordem dos Enfermeiros, it was found that the suspect was not a nurse, resulting in a criminal complaint for usurpation of functions by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which delegated the responsibility for the investigation to the PSP.”

As part of the investigation, searches were carried out at clinics located in Mafra and Lisbon and at the suspects residence in Sintra.

Following the searches, five laptops with clinical information, five mobile phones, 10,700 euros in notes and file folders with customer information/authorizations were seized.

It was also seized various materials suitable for the practice of medical acts: syringes, needles of various diameters, saturation lines, anesthesia, scalpels, botox and expired medications.

In the note, the PSP advises all citizens who want to enjoy aesthetic treatments to check the conditions and competences of the places that provide the services before starting any treatment
