Idealista, a Portuguese real estate platform, conducted a study relating to the second quarter of 2022 that reveals that North Americans are already leading the purchase of houses above 300 thousand euros. Showing that US citizens are on the podium in terms of purchasing luxury homes.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the possibilities of working remotely have opened the horizons for many of these new residents in the country, who are not only looking for a peaceful place to live, but also a place to invest and be close to the European market.
Many North Americans are choosing to apply for the D7 visa, which grants residence authorization to passive income earners, pensioners, but also citizens who wish to work in Portugal.
The profile of those arriving from the United States varies, including “digital nomads, who intend to work from here. They like the idea of coming to live here close to the sea, for example, and settle here; entire families who want to come here, many of them already dreaming of having their children in European universities. And retired people, who sell everything they have in the United States and decide to come to enjoy their retirement in Portugal”.
