The Movijovem initiative, in partnership with CP, which will offer advantages to all those who are going to finish or have finished secondary school.
From next Monday, January 8, young people who have signed up for “ANDA Conhecer Portugal” will be able to explore the country by train and sleep in Youth Hostels completely free of charge. This is a Movijovem initiative which, in partnership with CP, will allow teenagers who finish or have finished 12th grade between 2023 and 2025 to get to know the country’s cultural diversity and historical heritage free of charge.
With the program, which already has more than 10,000 pre-registrants, young people can travel for seven days with unlimited train travel and stay up to six nights in the network of Youth Hostels. All of this is free of charge, to “ensure that it is an action that covers everyone who finishes secondary school, mitigating socio-economic barriers and promoting mobility, youth tourism and territorial cohesion”, they point out.
The initiative represents an investment of around four million euros and is scheduled to run from 2023 to 2025. Applications can be made online.
The European Youth Card is also getting a new lease of life in Portugal: from January 8th, it will be free between the ages of 12 and 29. It will also have more advantages and features in order to offer better experiences.
With this initiative, young people will be able to sleep, for example, at the Parque das Nações Youth Hostel, which reopened in June last year. Opened 25 years ago, it had been closed since December 2021, but reopened its doors after renovation work.
The common areas and social and leisure spaces have been remodeled to offer a “more efficient and comfortable service.” The rooms have also been refurbished and now have the youthful image that will mark future Youth Hostels.
Another 2023 reopening was the Guarda Youth Hostel, which reopened to the public in May. HI Guarda – that’s what it’s called – has a capacity of 16 rooms, divided into four double rooms with a bathroom, two double rooms with a shared bathroom and 10 multiple rooms with four beds. It can accommodate 52 guests in total – and will also create eight new jobs.
