Portuguese man arrested in Trier.
A Portuguese man, who was being sought after escaping from a prison in Luxembourg, has been arrested in Trier, Germany.
According to a statement from the Federal Police in Trier, the 26-year-old man was arrested on New Year’s Eve.
The Portuguese man was serving time in Givenich prison and had not returned to the prison after a precarious release, which led to an alert being issued in the Schengen Information System by the Luxembourg authorities.
The German police eventually located the suspect and arrested him.
The man “voluntarily handed over a small amount” of cannabis and “a knife”. “During the subsequent search, 1.9 grams of cocaine were also found,” the police reveal.
The Portuguese man was handed over to the Luxembourg authorities at the Wasserbillig border crossing.
