UN flag and digital globe

Of the eight Portuguese projects candidates for the World Summit Awards, five were selected for the shortlist of this international initiative: Ethiack, Literary Highways (Club de Autores), MOSAICO, DigitALL and DeepNeurotic. This proves the capacity for national innovation.

According to the established schedule, the projects will now be evaluated by the Grand Jury, which will meet in February in India to select the final 40 winners. These will be present at the WSA Global Congress, which will take place between 14 and 17 April, in Patagonia, Chile.

APDC, a representative association of ICT and Media in Portugal, has been leading this selection process for more than a decade, choosing the national projects in eight categories to represent Portugal in the annual editions of the WSA, which cover more than 180 countries.

The WSA, initiated in 2003 as part of the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals Agenda by recognising local digital content with an impact on society, demonstrating the wealth and diversity of innovative applications.

“We are very proud to see five remarkable projects from our country reach the shortlist of this prestigious international award. Each of the projects represents the innovation and the impact that innovative local solutions can have on society, aligning with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals,” says Sandra Fazenda Almeida, Executive Director of APDC and WSA’s National Expert.

“We are now waiting for the results of the vote on the Grand Jury. At APDC, we are committed to highlighting, recognizing and promoting digital excellence.”
