The officers of the National Republican Guard, who were present at the scene, called in members of the Vila Real Judicial Police to investigate the incident.
On Saturday morning, a baby, just one month old, suffered cardiopulmonary arrest at her grandmother’s house, where she was staying, in the village of Ervedosa do Douro, in the district of Viseu, local firefighters confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto.
The child’s cardiopulmonary arrest was reported at around 10.20 a.m. and emergency medical services were called to the scene.
On arrival, the emergency services were unable to revive the child and death was declared at the scene.
The body was kept at the scene, awaiting all the police investigations and procedures, and was later sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Vila Real, where it will be autopsied, the commander of the Ervedosa do Douro Volunteer Fire Brigade told Notícias ao Minuto.
In addition to the fire brigade, an Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) and the National Institute for Medical Emergencies (INEM) helicopter from Macedo de Cavaleiros were also called in.
