“The ship closely monitored the activity of the Russian vessel during its transit through waters under national jurisdiction,” the officials explained.

Since yesterday, the NRP Setúbal has been accompanying two ships from the Russian Federation, the KILO II SSG-490 UFA submarine and the Balk-class tugboat ATS SERGEY BALK, which are sailing in the Exclusive Economic Zone of mainland Portugal.

“Serving Portugal at sea, the Navy will continue to ensure that no activities harmful to the country are carried out and to promote and protect Portugal’s interests at and through the sea,” the Marina concludes in the published note.
