Union announces partial strike at CTT between December 14 and 22

The strike covers the first two hours of work at postal distribution centers and the last two hours of work at CTT stores.

The Independent Union of Post, Telecommunications, Transport and Express of Portugal announced this Wednesday a partial general strike at the CTT company, between Thursday and December 22, due to the “unilateral decision” of the administration to denounce the Social Works Regulation.

Speaking to Lusa news agency, the president of the Independent Union of Post, Telecommunications, Transport and Express of Portugal (SICTTEXPT), Samuel Vieira, explained that the strike will cover the first two hours of work at postal distribution centers and the last two hours of work at CTT stores.

The partial general strike follows the “unilateral decision” of the company’s management to denounce the Social Works Regulation, by increasing its monthly quota and the co-payments for medical procedures carried out by the beneficiaries of the health plan, explained Samuel Vieira.

According to the union official, this plan covers around 35,000 beneficiaries, including permanent workers (including children and spouses) and pensioners. “At a time of great difficulty for all Portuguese workers, as a result of the exponential increase in the cost of living, and given the frankly positive results that the CTT company recently presented, this change is totally unreasonable,” he said.

He also told Lusa that this change would increase the cost of living for workers. The partial general strike starts on Thursday and is expected to last until December 22, he said.
