Do you know in which country in the world people spend the most time on social media? Portugal is second in Europe

There are more than five billion active social media users worldwide. We Are Social has compiled data on the countries with the highest average time spent on social networks by users aged 16 to 64 in January 2024.

The “typical” Internet user spends almost two and a half hours a day on social media, which is equivalent to more than a third of their total time online.

On average, women spend 16 minutes more per day on social networks than men. As for the social network, TikTok has the highest average time spent per user, while YouTube accounts for the largest overall share of total social media time.

With an average of 3 hours and 43 minutes spent daily on social media, the top is led by Kenya, followed by South Africa with 3 hours and 37 minutes, and Brazil, with a daily average of 3 hours and 34 minutes.

The first European country to appear on the list is Bulgaria, in 16th place with a daily average of 2 hours and 26 minutes. Two positions behind is Portugal, with 2 hours and 23 minutes a day on social media.

The country with the least time spent on social media is Japan, with an average of just 1 hour and 53 minutes a day.
