The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) seized nearly 30,000 liters of wine spirit from an economic operator and opened criminal proceedings for falsifying an abnormal wine product, the agency announced today.

In a statement, ASAE said that the enforcement action targeting the preparation, distribution and marketing of wine spirit was carried out by the Southern Regional Unit – Santarém Operational Unit, with the support of the Specialized Brigade for Wine and Wine Products.

The authority seized 29,485 liters of brandy, which amounts to more than 33,000 euros.

The note also states that ASAE will continue to carry out inspections, within the scope of its powers, throughout the country, “in the interests of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, safeguarding food safety and the public health of consumers”, as well as defending a sector that is crucial to the national economy.
