The armed man, who appeared to be a bank customer, made off with at least 100,000 to 150,000 euros. The robbery took place this Wednesday at around 3pm.
An allegedly armed man robbed a bank branch in Alcáçovas, in the municipality of Viana do Alentejo (Évora), on Wednesday and fled after stealing at least “between 100 and 150 thousand euros”, the GNR revealed.
Speaking to the Lusa news agency, a source from the GNR’s Évora Territorial Command explained that the alleged “armed robbery”, perpetrated by “a man with his face uncovered”, took place at around 15:00.
The individual, who “appeared to be a customer” of the bank, “managed to escape and take at least between 100,000 and 150,000 euros,” said the same source, noting that the exact amount is still being determined.
“The robber stole the money from the tills and also from the safe, which was opened,” he said.
The Guarda patrol arrived at the scene at 3.35pm, but “by the time they were contacted”, the suspect “had already fled around 20 minutes ago”, said the GNR source.
According to the account of the employees given by the GNR officers who went to the scene, the robber was “carrying a firearm”.
The investigation into the case has been handed over to the Judicial Police, specifically the National Counterterrorism Unit.
